Happy First Birthday Katelyn!

Katie celebrated her first birthday earlier in the month. Family came out early to help us celebrate since she was scheduled to have tubes put in on her actual birthday.




The tubes went in without a glitch and Katelyn did phenomenal during the procedure. We were in and out in under 3 hours. And when the medical staff learned it was her birthday, they celebrated right along with her (although I don't think she shared in their enthusiasm at the time!). One volunteer brought her a little stuffed animal from the gift shop and the medical team sang happy birthday to her when they were giving her the anesthetic gas.

We had planned for just one birthday celebration, with a couple of little gifts opened on her birthday, but Allie could not understand why Katelyn wouldn't have birthday cake on her actual birthday. After several attempts to explain that we'd already had birthday cake and a party for Katelyn, we said the heck with it and baked/decorated a cake and had another mini-celebration. So, even though Katelyn had the crummy experience of having tubes put in on her first birthday, she made out like a bandit with two birthday celebrations!
