I had my 35 week appointment on Wednesday and the baby is doing well. The heartbeat is strong and steady. My belly is measuring right on, meaning that the baby is "normal" size and I'm showing no signs of gestational diabetes! :)
The doctor was running behind, so the nurse suggested I utilize the down-time to schedule my remaining appointments. While I was talking with the receptionist, I learned my doctor will be on vacation the week the baby is born. Unlike the practice in Chicago, where we met all the doctors, scheduled appointments with each one and did not have a main "go to" one that would be delivering, here I've had the same doctor and have not met any of the others in the practice. My doctor delivers any of her patients' babies when they are born during the week day, and she is on call two nights a week and one weekend a month. I knew there was a chance I wouldn't have her at delivery time, but I was hoping to have her on hand for some of the labor and delivery process.
So, when she came in to meet with me on Wednesday and I mentioned that she'd be on vacation the week I'm due, she said we could go ahead and induce the week before! Since she is on call Mondays and Tuesdays it looks like the induction will be scheduled for July 6th or 7th. Because they were so behind with appointments, we are going to schedule the exact date this upcoming week. Either way, this mama is very happy to know that I only have a little over 3 weeks before our little one arrives. And I have the peace of mind that family will be on hand to care for Allie and my doctor will be available for the entire labor and delivery process!!
In the meantime, we are working on our to-do list of things to get done before the baby arrives. Cleaning, painting, yard work, etc. We're keeping busy and, of course, trying to spend as much quality time with Allie as possible!
